FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Answers to common questions

DANCING
  • How do I communicate with the studio?

You can reach your TEACHER via your Basecamp projects (login on computer, use the mobile app, or reply to chats via email).  You can reach the ADMIN teach via phone or text at (916) 280-0329 or email info@elkgrovemusiclessons.com

  • How do I communicate with my teacher?

Parents or students can contact their teachers via Basecamp (available for download from the app store). If you have not been invited to Basecamp please reach out to our Admin team for assistance.

  • What is Opus1 and how do I use it?

Opus 1 is our platform for all billing and scheduling questions.

On your parent profile you can see your students schedule, invoices, update payment and contact info and much more.

When you enroll you’ll receive a welcome email and will be guided through the steps to set up your account.

When you need to login in the future you just go to www.newsongs.opus1.io and click the Opus1 login button.

  • How long does it take to learn an instrument?

There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice a very basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving, and they find the lessons enjoyable.

  • I do not know anything about music. How can I help my child practice?

Even if you don’t have a musical background, you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring your child’s practice time, he or she will make progress. Many parents occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound.

  • Do I need an instrument at home?

For private lessons, YES. We do require students to have their own instrument at home within a month of beginning private lessons. We have enclosed a sheet that has recommendations of where to buy or rent instruments.

For Explorer classes, it depends on the class. Most of our group classes are designed to not have a practice requirement.

  • What happens if I (my child) get sick or there’s an emergency and can’t make a lesson?

Please cancel your lesson due to illness as soon as possible by contacting us or directly in your Opus1 account.

If we receive your advance cancellation you will automatically receive a credit to book any of our makeup group classes in the next 30 days at your convenience.

You can also hold individual lessons via Zoom if you feel up to it but have symptoms that could possibly be contagious, just contact us to request this option.

  • What happens if the teacher has to miss or there’s a bad weather closure?

If your teacher is absent, our goal is for you to still have your lesson as scheduled. We have amazing substitutes (most of our subs are our current teachers) lined up to step in if your teacher has to be gone for any reason. If for some reason we can’t arrange a sub then you’ll be issued a Make-up Credit that you can book, through Opus1, at your convenience.

  • What about holidays?

Our calendar is available in the studio lobby and on our website. All holiday closures are marked on there. Most months you will receive 4 lessons, sometimes 3 (Ex: When we’re closed for Spring Break) and sometimes 5. We factor all this and the holiday closures into the calendar and everyone, no matter what day you have a lesson, will get the same number of lessons across the year.
